Girls – Boarding – AFL Cape York House

A complimentary addition to the AFL Cape York House for boys (“boys house”) at Buchan St (Cairns), is the AFL Cape York House for girls was built in Redlynch (Cairns). This facility is  a modern purpose-built facility catering for up to 48 female students in Years 7-12 from Cape York, Gulf and Torres Strait.

Students attend partner schools and colleges in Cairns and have the opportunity to be involved in many out-of-school experiences, including sports, cultural pursuits and work or training. AFL Cape York House for girls will also work on the successful 3 pillar approach to education being – Careers Transition and Welfare, as witnessed at the boys house.

A high level of pastoral care is integral to the operation of AFL Cape York House. Academic tutoring and personal mentoring is provided to boarders, as well as a high-quality student leadership program incorporating volunteer work for community organisations.

Holistic personal development as well as academic success is a key aim of AFL Cape York House, with the intent of producing young people who will stand tall in their home communities as well as the broader community.
